Frequently Asked Questions
NO. Every celebrant is required to undertake the same basic training and attend annual Ongoing Professional Development programmes, but each will bring something different to your ceremony. It is imprortant that you like the person who will officiate at your wedding. It is imprortant that you feel confident that your ceremony will reflect your hopes and dreams for your big day and your life beyond. Some celebrants have specialities such as Medieval skills, or they are knowlwgable about pagan ritual. If you have a special need, ask if your celebrant has the skills and experience to deliver what you want.
How much do Celebrants charge? That depends on the Celebrant. The average would be around $500-$600 in Melbourne. My fees start at $300 for a simple registry Office style wedding at my house. There are many things that may influence the fee that is charged, such as who the celebrant is, what type of things you want included in the ceremony, where the ceremony is held, if you want to have an on-site rehearsal, the time of day and the day of the week. How busy or how experienced the Celebrant is. As an example I spend at least 15hours on each ceremony I deliver. Yet my fees will probably be less than what you are paying your florist or your makeup artist.
Where can we get married?A marriage can be celebrated anywhere. Most common places are Reception Centres, Beaches, Parks, Hotels, Restaurants, Gardens etc. Some couples like tohave their weddinng in exotic locations such as under water, skydiving or in a hot air balloon. Your wedding location is limited only by your imagination.
Where do I get the Notice of Intended Marriage.Your Celebrant will have access to these documents or you can download them from the Government website www.ag.gov.au/marriage
What papers do I need to fill out to get married? You are required to complete the "Notice Of Intended Marriage" (NOIM) This must be witnessed by your Celebrant or an Authorised person.
