Deciding on a Hairstyle for the Bride

The bridal hair is something that every bride should spend some serious time considering, especially when they have spent so much time on the dress and accessories, you don’t want to ruin the overall look by having a hair mistake. Most hair stylist and wedding professionals recommend that every bride start thinking and practicing her potential bridal hair style as much as six months in advance. This is for two reasons really, so the bride has time to think carefully and work out what would suit her best while also leaving enough time for her hair to grow to the desired length.

As a future bride obviously a great deal of time will be spent working out and deciding on what sort of style you will have. This is generally tied into the theme of the wedding and the level of formality attached.

Hair Advice – Need help with options? Use the internet to search online at the many different types of hairstyles available for brides. Picture galleries are great options as you can print of your favourites and take to your hair stylist for their opinion.

For example, a strapless bodice gown with a full skirt is often paired with a sleek up do to highlight to beautiful neckline and neck of the bride herself. Alternatively a bride who has chosen a soft lace gown for an outdoor ceremony may prefer instead to wear her hair out, both sleek and straightened or in loose flowing curls.

As mentioned on this site, there are a number of factors that need to consider when deciding on a type of hairstyle for a wedding including:

  • Face shape
  • Wedding theme
  • Dress style
  • Hair accessories

Whatever her decision a bride should consult with a hairstylist or, if she knows, the person who will doing her hair on the day as early as possible as many brides do get caught out by having a dream hairstyle in mind for the big day...but have cut or treated their hair to a state that the hairstyle can’t be applied.

Similarly, never have a treatment such as a perm or colour highlight unless it is in direct relation to your bridal hair, even if it IS still months away.  This may sound overcautious but treatments such as these can affect the hair for months and any colouring changes need to be well thought out as to how they would appear in the chosen bridal hairstyle.

Hair Advice – Think about the weather and climate that you will be marrying in. There’s no point having your hair straightened into a beautiful mane of sleek hair, only to walk outside and have tropical humidity wreck havoc and ruin the whole thing.

If using a veil or any hair accessories, be sure to bring them to any hair appointments at least two months before the big day in order to ensure that they work with the chosen hairstyle, or you may have to make some alterations in order to incorporate them.

Choosing your bridal hair should be an exciting process where you can experiment with many different styles to find one that works perfectly for you on your big day.
