Use your Face shape to Decide your Hairstyle

While many a word has been written about having a great hair cut to suit your face shape, the same principle should be used when deciding what kind of hairstyle to have for your wedding day. As most hairstylists will say, the shape of a person’s face should be used with their hairstyle to create perfect symmetry and balance.
So first to the basic face shapes and their dimensions:
The Oval – probably the most versatile face shape that allows for the greatest selection of hairstyles, the oval face is even and proportionally balanced. Brides with this face shape are well-suited for almost every type of hairstyle, with a tightly pulled up do and high hairstyle.
The Square – defined by its strong jaw line and forehead, a bride with a square face will often be advised to wear softer hairstyles such as loose curls around the face to create an ‘oval’ appearance. Popular styles square brides include those with waves around the face as with loose hair or an up do with a veil that softens the lines of the face.
The Round – a round face is one that is equally distant across and down the face, creating a circular appearance. Often round brides will require the need to angles to be added to their face, with bridal hairstyles that add height to the crown of the hair are well suited.
The Heart – heart shaped faces are those that have a wide forehead and a narrow, pointed chin. Brides with heart faces are well advised to add bulk to their lower face to balance out their face. This can be achieved through loose curls or a veil that is heavy around the lower jaw.
While face shape is important to assist in the decision of bridal hair, the bride’s own hair type should also be considered.
On that same note, jewellery to be worn by a bride should also be chosen with some basis on her face shape.
The Oval – like hairstyles, an oval face can pretty much where any type of earring as the face is already balanced and therefore will not be affected by the earring style. When it comes to necklaces it is basically the same story with oval faced brides able to balance most styles of necklace.
The Square – a square faced bride is better suited to wear any shape of earrings as long as the earring width is greater than the length. In terms of a necklace, a square bride should aim to continue to have soft lines and avoid ‘heaviness’ through a few different means, either long thing strands of pearls or chains both work very well.
The Round – due to the roundness of the face, these brides should wear drop earrings or chandelier earrings to add length to the face and detract from the fullness of the cheeks and face. For a necklace a round face should try to add length to her overall face and body which means having a necklace that is quite long. This can mean wearing scooped hanging necklaces or Y-style. Like the square face, round faces should try to avoid thickness around the neck as this will only add to the illusion of fullness around the face and neck.
The Heart – as balance is the overall aim of the hairstyle and jewellery, a heart face should aim to add bulk to her lower face to balance out the predominant forehead. In this case a heart face bride should wear earrings that are heavier at the base such as chandelier earrings or drop style. Similarly, a heart face bride should aim to add bulk to her lower jaw and neckline to balance out the wider eye level by wearing a choker or heavy stone necklace around the higher part of the neckline.
