Wedding Makeup Tips

Bridal make up is a major part of creating that flawless look for at least one day. Even if you do not usually wear any make up, your wedding day is that one day where you can create flawless beauty through simple tricks of the makeup trade.

Generally speaking, a makeup artist will perform your make up for you on the day with a trial beforehand, yet it is highly advised to go in with some idea of what colours and tones you would like to use on your face.

Therefore it is important to first take time to know and understand which makeup tools are best to use for you and your tones.

Foundation - In choosing a foundation, what you have to consider is the shade and consistency along with your skin type. Oily skin tones should choose ‘oil free’ products, Dry skin should opt for 'hydrating' or 'moisture-rich' while those with combination skin should instead go for cream-to-powder foundations as they will give the best results. Test the product on your jaw line before buying for the right colour, and again with a full make up test to measure the level of coverage.

Concealer - See to it that the shade of your concealer perfectly blends with your skin colour by testing on your face, looking for a flawless finish with no clear edges of where the concealer finishes. Concealer is important as it will hide larger blemishes that cannot be hidden with foundation.

Blush – if you are unsure on which blush tone to use there is one simple test, get your heart rate going and see what colour your cheeks turn naturally. This will be your perfect colour on your wedding day. As for the consistency, there is a choice of powder or cream blushes.  Cream blushes are best for skin that is dry or lined whereas powder is better for long term wear.

Eye shadow - Shades for your eye shadow depends on the eye colour you have. It's highly advised to choose shades that are darker than the colour of your eyes. If your eyes are blue, shades like silver, fuchsia, and turquoise can be used as good complements also for a wedding hair accessory. Remember that there are two textures of eye shadow - shimmer and matte.

The Perfect Eye shadow for Eye colour:
Blue Eyes - violet, purple, taupe, gray, deep blue, black, silver, turquoise, fuchsia, navy, charcoal
Brown Eyes - bronze, copper, champagne, apricot, brown, beige, khaki-green, royal blue, certain shades of green, navy, charcoal
Green/Hazel Eyes – shades of purple such as plum, deep greens, browns, gold, navy, charcoal

Eyeliner – obviously the determine factor of the colour of eyeliner should be what eye shadow you choose, but that question then becomes which type of eyeliner to use. The most common types of eyeliner on the market are pencils, liquid eyeliner, felt tip eyeliner that works like the liquid one and the cake eyeliners. Pencil eyeliners are great for building up a look, adding depth and smoky eyes, while liquid-based eyeliners are better suited for brighter and clearer lines.

Mascara – when it comes to weddings and mascara, waterproof is always a popular option, especially if you are the emotional type. Waterproof won’t budge all day and will keep its intensity. Unfortunately, this waterproof quality also means that it can be difficult to take off eventually which makes it ideal for one day wear but not every day.

Lipstick - Brides are advised to use lipsticks with matte textures so it would last longer. Those that are shiny tend to be gone in a few hours, unless reapplied. Moreover, you should also match the colour of your lipstick to a similar shade as your blush.

Besides just understanding the makeup itself, you may also want to look into some other aspects of makeup art that go into creating the perfect finish.

1. Know the essential makeup tools

This is important if you're the one who's going to do the makeup for yourself. Make sure that you have everything you need from brushes, eyelash curler, foundation, eyeliner, lipstick, and other makeup tools you need. You don't want to cram on your wedding day just because you realize one tool is missing. Also, if you all have the essential tools with you, make sure that you know how to use them. Otherwise, have a makeup artist to assist you.

2. Be familiar with your skin type

Not all makeup suits your skin with most divided into either oily, dry or combination products. Therefore see to it that you test each makeup before using or buying any. You might be allergic to some brands or they may not blend well with your skin. It's necessary that you know your skin type so you'd know what makeup to use.

3. Test all colour choices BEFORE the wedding

Always have a makeup trial before the date in order to test out any colour choices to see how they will look with the rest of your face and hair.
