Wedding News > Wedding Gift Registry Etiquette

A wedding gift registry can be a little bit tricky. You might feel awkward for making it obvious what gifts you'd like, however, you also don't want a dozen sets of water glasses or useless trinkets that are better off in the garbage. A wedding gift registry also allows people who can't make it to the wedding to get you a gift. If you opt for gifts over a wishing well, then put in the effort to have a good wedding gift registry.

Wedding gift registries do come with an etiquette. By adhering to the wedding gift registry etiquette, you'll make your family and friends more comfortable with what to choose or you.

Give everyone plenty of options to choose from. You can sign up to registries in different stores. This will make it more interesting when your family and friends go browsing for your wedding gift. And it will also give them an idea of what stores you like to shop in, in case they don't want to pick something from you list, but do want to get you a gift.

Have a wide price range of items. Let your family and friends spend as much they want. Not everyone can afford expensive items - even if they do love you to bits. Have a list of expensive and inexpensive items to choose from.

Have the wedding gift registry open for as long as possible. This will give people ample time to save for items they'd like to get you.

Do not include gift registry information with the wedding invitation! This is a big no no and a breach of etiquette. You do not want to be seen soliciting gifts with your wedding invitations. Try using word of mouth, or send a follow up letter a few weeks later.

Say thank you. As soon as you receive the gift, issue a thank you note. If you receive the gift in person, still send out a thank you note. Good manners are always appreciated.
