Brides want their wedding dress to be remembered. The idea of the white wedding dress can be traced back to Queen Victoria's wedding dress. The idea of a white wedding dress became popular in honour of Queen Victoria. Prior to this in western culture, a bride could be married in any colour she liked, with the exception of black or red.
Wedding dresses in colours other than white are becoming more popular. As Australia is such a multicultural country, and there are many interfaith weddings occurring. Also many brides also just don't want to wear white.
In many Asian cultures, red is considered a lucky colour and red is often the colour of wedding dresses. In Indian cultures, different coloured saris are worn during the wedding. Even if you don't have a cultural heritage, there is nothing to stop you from incorporating other wedding traditions into your wedding.
Wedding dresses can be elaborate, simple, colourful - white isn't to the taste of every woman. It may be classical, but if you want to stand out, take a look at wedding dresses in different colours.
