Designing your Wedding Rings
Jewellry Designing
Jewelry designers design and create pieces of jewelry. After creating their own designs or those by clients, the fabrication of the pieces starts by forming the metal or by carving wax to create mold for casting the metal. Each part is soldered and stones are set to create the jewelry.
In large jewelry businesses, computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) are used to aid in product designing and automating several steps in producing models and molds. With CAD, designers can see the image of the design and make the necessary modifications in the design and materials. CAM, on the other hand, aids in making a wax-like model and mold of the piece. These can be presented to clients for review of the design or used to reproduce the piece. Whether working for big jewelry businesses or small jewelry shops, jewelry designing is a job that requires specialized skills, sharp attention to details, and precision.

Leber Jeweler
Brian Leber and Joanne Aono design jewelry for Leber Jeweler, Inc. They have designed the pieces for the company's Earthwise Jewelry Collection, a collection of jewelry pieces utilizing fair trade gemstones, recycled metals, and Canadian diamonds to reflect Leber Jeweler's active support for fair trade practices and environmental issues. They also custom design wedding, commitment, and anniversary rings. Joanne Aono studied BFA in Fine Art and Design and creates jewelry designs for the company. On the other hand, Brian Leber, recognized by the Gemological Institute of America and the American Gem Society, uses his knowledge in art, precious gems, and making jewelry in designing jewelry pieces.
For Leber Jeweler, creating a custom piece of jewelry, like a wedding ring, begins with client consultation. An appointment can be made at the store, by phone, or email. During the meeting, an initial wedding ring design will be made from ideas and pictures. Materials will then be chosen based on the budget. They can be 18-carat yellow gold ring, palladium white gold wedding ring, or 950 platinum bands. After the design is reviewed and approved, a 50% deposit will be required and a wax model is usually created according to the design specifications. The piece is then casted and filed and the stones are going to be set. Before presenting to the client, the custom-designed piece will undergo polishing, wedding ring engraving, cleaning, inspection, and packaging.
