Wedding dress trends for 2010
Monday December 7, 2009
Wedding dresses have developed over time to reflect both societal and fashion trends, all the while meaning to represent the bride on this significant occasion. When it comes to trends in wedding dresses there are notable historical decades where some looks dominated while others were only reserved for the highly confident bride not afraid of wearing that daring bridal gown.
So what does 2010 hold for bridal wear, what's hot and what's not in the world of wedding?
There are several major changes across the wedding industry as we prepare for 2010, with the preference for old-style Hollywood glamour still remaining a major dominating force in the overall feel of weddings. What's more, brides have begun moving towards coloured dresses, sexy and skin-exposing dresses along with lighter fabrics designed to move and shift as the bride does.
Hollywood Glamour Wedding Dresses
This trend towards Hollywood glamour has been attributed, in part, to the overall feeling that a wedding is now a couple's own version of a major event, equipped with the use of stylists, personal trainers, nutritionists and hair and make-up artists.
Within this fairly broad genre of "old Hollywood glamour" is a resurgence of some classic pieces and accessories to compliment this look. This includes birdcage veils, dramatic makeup, use of strong colour and beading.
For instance, the emergence of birdcage veils is a great choice for a bride wanting to add something to their head and face without the heavy weight or hindrance that traditional veils provide. Usually fixed at the side of the head with a jewelled clip or feathers, the birdcage veil is often a popular choice in white or off white to soften the brides face if the hair is pulled back.
Use of Colour
Always a popular choice, many brides are opting to have an element of the dress coloured to match their colour scheme for the entire wedding, enhancing the overall look and impression of the dress. Furthermore, some brides are choosing to shun the traditional white dress altogether and pursue a strong bold colour that represents them and their wedding type. For example, many brides are now holding their weddings in parks or gardens, with the predominate flower colour of the setting chosen as the principle colour for the brides wedding gown.
Shorter and more revealing wedding dresses
In a move away from the traditional ball gown style wedding dress, mini and tea-length gowns are fast becoming a major part of many bridal collections, especially for summer brides. The shorter wedding dresses offer much in the way of a casual option while maintaining a bridal visage or simply for showing off the designer shoes. Or if shorter hemlines are not your preference, backless or low V-cut necklines are quickly surging in popularity for many brides to achieve that sexy look.
Sleek dress shapes
Perhaps one of the most popular styles that are predicted to dominate the wedding dress market is the sleek, form fitting style dress. The slim line of a form fitting dress has well and truly leads the designer wedding gowns with styles varying between trumpet, sheaths, mermaid-cut and long simple column dresses. Despite the name, this style of dress can be adapted to suit most body shapes with the right cut normally being able to flatter various different body types.
