Wedding Entertainment
Wedding entertainment plays a big role in weddings because it sets the theme and the ambiance of the event and can often reflect the couple’s own personal tastes and style. As such, the choice of wedding entertainment and music is one that requires a level of consideration as the tone and pace of the music will be a deciding factor on the overall event. Would you like a party, dancing atmosphere or rather a low tempo for conversation? It is also important to consider the age range of the guests and their own personal preferences, so a blend of both modern songs and classics is always popular.
Kinds of Wedding Entertainers
Bands, orchestras, choirs, and disc jockeys are examples of entertainers that a couple can hire to perform at their wedding. Wedding entertainers play music that is in accordance with the wedding's theme and the couple’s preference.
- Wedding Band – available in most types of music styles, a wedding band can have many members that can all play together or separately for different parts of a ceremony or the reception.
- Wedding Orchestra - orchestras play various kinds of music with size of the wedding orchestra depending on the couple's budget, the venue's size, and the number of people attending the event. A wedding needs 8-10 piece orchestra if it has 100-200 guests, 9-14 piece orchestra if it has 200-300 guests, and 10-17 piece orchestra if it has 300 or more guests.
- Wedding Choir – often provided with a church wedding if requested. On this note, if you are having a wedding and reception in a church then you may need to speak to the church's officiant regarding the types of music allowed in the place during the ceremony.
- Wedding Disc Jockey – a popular option for receptions due to the versatility of the music that can be played along with modern favourites
Before you commit to any wedding entertainer it is important that you see them perform live to get a feel for how they will play at your wedding. Additionally, ask for a promo kit from the entertainer which should contain demo tapes of their material so you can assess their level of performance and whether it will suit your ceremony.
Once you have decided upon a wedding entertainer it is important to sign a contract that finalises all details, including:
- the price and the means by which the wedding entertainers would be paid
- how long the wedding entertainers would perform
- the entertainers' name
- the wedding entertainers' arrival time
- the amount of time the wedding entertainers need to prepare for their performance
- the cancellation procedure
Selecting the Wedding Music and Song
The wedding's tone is set by the music played in the event while also being used to reflect the couple’s own personal taste and choices. When it comes to choosing the music for the first dance as husband and wife, most industry experts suggest choosing a song that accurately represents both the groom and the bride’s feelings. Whether it is the first song they danced too or just one that they feel represents their life together.
As a side note, it is important the couple should also practice dancing with the wedding music that they have chosen to determine the songs pace and to decide whether they can keep up with the song's beat.
