I started out in photography what now seems like an age ago. Back when digital was a long way away. (Actually it was only ten years away but at the time it seemed like for-ev-er!) When I started on this path of doing my own photography thing I grabbed a digital camera and off I went on my merry way, like so many others I said to myself, 'Who uses film anymore?'. But somewhere along this journey I was reintroduced to film again and it changed the way I view photography. Now I care about each and every shot in a way I didn't when shooting digital. Now I know that if I don't get it right in camera, then I didn't get the shot and that makes me really think about what I'm doing. That's not why I shoot film though. I shoot in film because I love the look of it. I love the colours and I love the way it captures light. To me, film is authentic and it is authenticity that I want to bring to all my images, through both the medium and the way I choose to photograph. My style of photography is predominantly documentary. I prefer images of people being themselves during a real and un-orchestrated moment. Most of us are not models or actors and so on, we are people going about our lives being exactly that - everyday people. Even if we are well used to being on a stage of some sort, it’s only when we are ourselves in front of the camera do you get to see our personalities. That is what I’m after. Sure I’ll do some posing but what I really want is to document you interacting with the people around you. The people you love. The people that matter. Or to simply capture a moment of you. That is when images which take you back to that very same time and place, are created. The photographs you can look at months and years later, which still bring a smile to your face. If it sounds like this kind of style will work for you, then let's chat.
